Kickstarter
The 6 pledge tiers, decoded
Data last checked: · how we verify numbers
Defenders of Hogwarts sold in three tiers — The Defender £58, The Guardian £115 and The Collector £280 [official] — each of which returned after the campaign as a late-pledge twin at the same price, minus one item. That makes six tiers in total, and all six are closed as of 9 October 2026. Here is what each contained, who backed what, and the fine print that decided real money.
Warning
Nothing on this page is an offer. The campaign ended 23 July 2026, and the late-pledge window closed on 9 October 2026 so fulfilment could start [official]. We treat every tier below as a historical record — there is no buy button here on purpose.
The three campaign tiers, restated
The campaign ran 30 June – 23 July 2026 and closed at £1,313,755 from 10,959 backers — 26× its £50,000 goal [official]. Every tier price excluded shipping and taxes, which were collected later in the pledge manager based on your address [official].
| Tier | Price | What you got (restated) | Backers | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Defender | £58 (≈ $77) | The complete base game plus the A5 gold-foil Art Print — a Kickstarter exclusive. | 4,894 | Closed 2026-07-23 |
| The Guardian | £115 (≈ $152) | Everything in The Defender, plus the Deluxe Box Sleeve, the Wooden Token Upgrade Set (25 wooden pieces), the Player Pin Set (5 enamel pins) and the Protective Card Sleeve Set (160 sleeves). All but the pins were Kickstarter exclusives. | 3,587 | Closed 2026-07-23 |
| The Collector | £280 (≈ $370) | Everything in The Guardian, plus The Collector’s Box in a second shipment: Metal Player Pawn Upgrade Set (23 pieces), Dumbledore’s Army Upgrade Set (4 metal coins), Luxury Token Bag and the Signed Artist’s Portfolio. | 1,424 | Closed 2026-07-23 |
| Late: The Defender | £58 | Same as the campaign Defender — minus the Art Print. | 450 | Closed 2026-10-09 |
| Late: The Guardian | £115 | Same as the campaign Guardian — minus the Art Print. | 249 | Closed 2026-10-09 |
| Late: The Collector | £280 | Same as the campaign Collector — minus the Art Print; Collector’s Box still second shipment. | 95 | Closed 2026-10-09 |
Dollar figures are the campaign’s own conversions [official]; the Hive late-pledge page quoted $79.08 / $156.80 / $381.77 at its checkout rate [official].
The late-pledge-only caveat: no art print
Late pledge caveat
The Art Print add-on was explicitly marked “not available for late pledges” [official] — it is the one content cut across all three late tiers. The official FAQ also warned that late pledgers “no longer have access to Kickstarter Exclusive pricing and we cannot guarantee availability of rewards and add-ons” [official FAQ] — yet in practice Hive listed identical £58 / £115 / £280 prices. Availability, not price, was the real late-pledge risk.
The £280 split: two shipments, one postage bill
Rulebook check
The Collector’s £280 did not mean waiting a year for everything. The main box — the full game plus all Guardian-level upgrades — shipped with everyone else in October 2026. Only The Collector’s Box (metal pawns, D.A. coins, token bag, signed portfolio) followed in March 2027, because of its longer production run [official FAQ]. Crucially, the shipping fee listed under The Collector already included the cost of both shipments [official FAQ] — no second postage bill.
What backers actually chose
| Tier | Campaign backers | Share of all backers | Late backers | Combined | Tier revenue (est.) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Defender | 4,894 | 44.7% | 450 | 5,344 | ≈ £310k |
| The Guardian | 3,587 | 32.7% | 249 | 3,836 | ≈ £441k |
| The Collector | 1,424 | 13.0% | 95 | 1,519 | ≈ £425k |
Versus our analysis
By headcount, The Defender won: 4,894 campaign backers against 3,587 [official]. But by money, The Guardian was the most popular choice — ≈ £412.5k in campaign pledges versus ≈ £398.7k for The Collector and ≈ £283.9k for The Defender, and it stays on top (≈ £441k) once late pledges are counted [our arithmetic]. The average backer paid ≈ £119.9 — within £5 of a Guardian [our arithmetic]. The tiers also don’t explain the whole total: after roughly 1,054 £1 “follower” pledges, around £136k of the £1,313,755 came from add-ons such as the £167 Signed Artist’s Portfolio [our arithmetic].
In other words, 9,905 of 10,959 backers — 90.4% — chose a game tier [official, shares our arithmetic]. The £1 pledge was a real, documented route: lock pledge-manager access first, upgrade later [official FAQ].
The price claim, checked
Every tier carried a SAVE 30% badge [official], and the official FAQ pegs the recommended retail price at £75 including UK VAT — base game only, no exclusives [official FAQ]. Against that number, The Defender alone works out at roughly 23% off; the 30% badge holds only if you credit the bundled exclusives at their add-on prices [our arithmetic]. We unpack the retail side in Kickstarter vs retail editions.
