What a late pledge really costs where you live

The tier price is not the price. On top of £58 / £115 / £280 come official shipping (GBP, re-verified against the original campaign graphic) and destination taxes, which the campaign collects in the pledge manager for UK/US/CA/EU and leaves entirely unknown for Rest-of-Europe and Rest-of-World deliveries. This page itemises all of it — and where inputs are missing, it prints unknown instead of a fake total. Official wording: “Pledge price excludes shipping and applicable sales taxes (VAT, GST, US state taxes, etc.), which will be calculated based on your location and collected in the pledge manager.”

Sales-tax rates for this region were not verified, and duties are not covered by the campaign. The estimator will show your known subtotal plus every unknown item — it deliberately will not invent a total.
We assume sales tax applies to the pledge price + shipping (a UK backer has reported shipping being taxed). If your locality does not tax shipping, our tax estimate is slightly too high.

Where taxes are charged
- UK / US / Canada / EU — pledge manager collects sales tax. [official wording + backer reports]
- EU ships from inside the EU (fulfilment centre), and the campaign says it would refund any unexpected customs fees [official comment reply].
- Rest of Europe / Australia & NZ / Rest of World — duties not included; sales tax may be charged in the pledge manager or on delivery depending on local law [official table].
- Australia adds GST at 10% — the campaign table lists it under “calculated and collected in the pledge manager”. How Hive implements GST collection is not specified. [our analysis, flagged].
The UK VAT wrinkle — both scenarios
Official wording says taxes are “collected in the pledge manager”. But no UK backer has published a final invoice proving the pledge price didn’t already include VAT. That single unknown swings UK results by more than £13 on the Defender — so we show both:
